Medellin, Colombia
Dear Senora Gomez,
I hope you are having a nice day! Here I am putting the Spanish schools that we already went to (usually during the summer or breaks). I will put them in order, especially what I think that would best suit your daughters' needs. We love the South American countries and cultures so much and have not taken Spanish classes in Spain yet but hope to do so this summer!
1. Spanish Academy
Antiguena (Antigua, Guatemala)
- Best because 1:1 classes (can choose what learn with teacher but
- Teachers are very professional and there are lots of students (there are two locations close together). There is an indoor and outdoor location
- Offer family housing
- Small cute town that has lots of nature attractions
- Perfect for children (can meet new children of similar age->I made lots of good friends)
- After classes, there are fun activities (bracelet making, trips to cocoa plantation or hot springs or volcano, trying foods, cooking...)
- Most people take 4 hour classes but there are also longer ones possible
- This was my personal fav! I went when I was 10 and 11 for 2 months in the summer.
- There are many nice places to eat and there is a beautiful public library
2. Escuela Falcon
(Guanajuato, Mexico)
- Small school w/ primarily group classes (2-4 people).
- Because there weren’t that many people in general, there weren’t that many children, but it is very children friendly
- Teachers are very professional and every hour there are new teachers so that students can study different parts of the language
- The city is less touristy (there are more locals so opportunity to speak) and very beautiful
- Went last summer for 3 weeks after I went to San Miguel (close by so can try both schools if already in Mexico)
3. Liceo de la Lengua
(San Miguel de Allende, Mexico)
- Group classes for adults and a special program for kids (though I didn’t do that because it was less advanced). The program for kids is a great way to meet kids with similar interests. These classes allow kids to discover the city together with teachers
- This is a very beautiful touristic city with boutiques and opportunities to explore
4. Banana Spanish School
(Ecuador, Quito)
- A small school with 1:1 classes
- Not many children at the school
- This is the capital so there are lots of museums to see and lots of opportunities to practice
- Went during spring break 3 years ago
- Group classes with a focus on grammar. This school is not child friendly and focuses on grammar.
- There is a lot to do in the city because this is a regular-sized city with a population of millions.
- Most recently went over Spring break for two weeks
Hope you can go because it was really amazing! Best regards to your daughters, Sol and Luna!
Sincerely,
Basia
