Feeding Your Child’s Appetite for Math and Art
“Mosaics and Honeycombs”
With Alison Grace Martin

Basia with Alison Grace Martin, May 2016
We
attended an innovative workshop with a weaver, maker, and artist Alison Grace Martin, who came from Italy to teach us how to craft complex patterns out of paper and math. These 3-D geometric
puzzles twisted our brains into the third dimension and put our spatial
reasoning skills to the test. We explored an extraordinary variety of possible
combinations, including complex patterns seen in nature, and identified the
symmetrical assembly patterns that rhythmically repeat in all three directions,
stretching outwards toward infinity. Everybody was so involved in sculpturing that haven't noticed that it was already time to leave.
