Books to Read by Judith Viorst

Dear Auntie,
I want to wish you a very Happy Birthday.
Love,
Basia with Mom and Dad
P.S.
I was not feeling well today so my mom read me “Lulu Walks the Dogs” by Judith Viorst. The other books from this series are “Lulu and the Brontosaurus” and “Lulu's Mysterious Mission.”  Lulu it’s a rude, unpleasant, and spoiled girl who gets lots of horrifying adventures. Read them because I’m sure you would like them too. Judith Viorst writes cool books. You’ve might already heard  about “Alexander” series, for example “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.” I would recommend her books to all people in the world. “

Papertoy Monsters in Children’s Hands and Their Unique Stories

Basia and her friends have been practicing their small motor skills by folding paper, not origami but papertoys from a breakthrough paper-folding book “Papertoy Monsters” by Brian Castleforte.
Each paper creation comes with an own back-story to read and memorize. The playdates have been really successful, the kids seem to be truly engaged in the making process and interested in their monster’s history. They’ve started creating their own monstrosities and write some unique stories.

Meet:
ICY HUGGY, the legendary Himalayan Yeti.
CASSANDRA, the legendary Skeleton Monster from Mexico City, Mexico.
OCTOPUP, the legendary Mariana Trench from the bottom of the sea.
HEIDI, the legendary Monster In Your Closet from Bavaria, Germany.

Look for more monsters in “Papertoy Monsters” book.
The paper-folding book is the Internet phenomenon that’s hot among graphic designers and illustrators around the world. The book was created and curated by Brian Castleforte, a graphic designer and papertoy pioneer who rounded up 25 of the hottest papertoy designers from around the world (Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Italy, Croatia, Chile, even Jackson, Tennessee).
Pharaoh Thoth Amon,
Once ruled Egypt but is now a mummy who practices dark magic in his sarcophagus.

Papertoy Monsters offers 50 fiendishly original die-cut designs that are ready to pop out, fold, and glue. The book interleaves card stock with paper stock for a unique craft package; the graphics are colorful and hip, combining the edginess of anime with the goofy fun of Uglydolls and other collectibles.

"BODY WORLDS
was invented by Dr. von Hagens in 1977, the Plastination process replaces the natural fluids in anatomical specimens with liquid reactive plastics that are hardened and cured with gas, light, or heat.
Before hardening the plastic in the specimens, they are dissected and arranged into extraordinary, life-like poses, illustrating how our bodies internally respond to everyday movements and activities.
Plastination provides the flexibility and strength needed to display and preserve anatomical specimens in their true-to-life form, without the use of glass barriers or formaldehyde.
Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS exhibitions stem from an established body donation program that relies on donor consent.
Basia, January 2015
The specimens on display, excluding a small number of acquisitions from anatomical collections and anatomy programs, stem from a body donation program that was begun in 1983 by Dr. von Hagens."
Discovery Times Square is located at 226 West 44th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue).
For more information on the exhibit please visit

Looking For Inspiration - Self-Portrait - Basia versus Frida Kohlo

Self-Portrait by Basia P., January, 2015
With a great excitement Basia has set a table to get ready to try her new, artists’ colored pencils. She decided to draw a self-portrait.
To spring her ideas I pulled Frida Kohlo album from a shelf. She looked through the paintings slowly and carefully described the compositions, colors and concepts. It appeared to be a good choice and powerful source.

Looking For Inspiration - Hee-Jung Park and Basia's Worlds

Once again Basia got inspired by an artist - Hee-Jung Park; a co-founder and creative director of “Tiny Little Dream” who gave Basia her “Travel Sister” for Christmas”,  a handmade stuffed doll.

Basia has studied the clothes and decided to create variety of outfits for her beloved elf Jazmine.
