Celebrate it on Saturday, April 22, 2017 or any other day of the year!
This
holiday is a humble but joyful way to show your appreciation for the
environment.

Environmental Facts:
- The average American produces more than 4 pounds of garbage per day.
- Almost half of the food in the U.S. goes to waste (about 3,000 pounds per second.)
- Every year, Americans throw away enough paper and plastic cups, forks, and spoons to circle the equator 300 times.

Simple
Changes to Waste Less:
- The energy saved by recycling one plastic bottle can power a computer for 25 minutes.
- The energy saved from recycling one glass bottle will operate a 100-watt light bulb for four hours.
Things
to Do This Earth Day:
- Make a compost bin. Composting helps to reduce the amount of waste we send to the landfill and in turn, the amount of pollution in the air, land and water. Learn how you can help the environment by composting foodscraps indoors using a worm bin!
- Join a local Earth Day celebration, for example Battery Park City Park or BrooklynBridge Park Conservancy Environmental Education Center. Afterwards, take time to explore nature in these incredible parks.
- Head to bird watch. Study the birds’ features and observe their habits and behaviors. There are some serious birders at Prospect Park.
