March - Developmental Disabilities Month!

During the study period (2009–2017) about 1 in 6 (17%) children aged 3–17 years were diagnosed with a developmental disability. The study was done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Developmental disabilities include disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Muscular Dystrophy, Down Syndrome, or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and affect a person’s growth and/or cognition.

But people shouldn’t have to be worried or alarmed if someone has a developmental disability. They can usually live normal lives as long as they have the proper supports.
